San Matteo e l'angelo è un dipinto del pittore bolognese Guido Reni realizzato nel 1635-1640 e conservato nella Pinacoteca vaticana nella Città del Vaticano.
Il dipinto era collocato per molto tempo nella chiesa di Santa Maria Immacolata a Roma fu attribuito a Lucio Massari dal 1955. Il dipinto è stato infine attribuito a Guido Reni nel 2010 grazie alla scoperta di un documento di riconoscimento allegato al retro di la tela, datato 1642.
La scena raffigura l'evangelista Matteo il quale guarda e ascolta attentamente un angelo (simbolo dell'evangelista): gli detta il testo del Vangelo. Matteo scrive con una penna nel libro.
Considerato dagli studiosi di Storia dell’arte come uno tra i più validi capolavori che il Reni realizzò nella maturità

San Matteo and the Angel is a painting by the Bolognese painter Guido Reni made in 1635-1640 and kept in the Vatican Picture Gallery in the Vatican City. The painting was placed for a long time in the church of Santa Maria Immacolata in Rome and was attributed to Lucio Massari from 1955. The painting was finally attributed to Guido Reni in 2010 thanks to the discovery of an identification document attached to the back of the canvas, dated 1642. The scene depicts the evangelist Matthew who looks and listens attentively to an angel (symbol of the evangelist): he dictates the text of the Gospel to him. Matthew writes with a pen in the book. Considered by art history scholars as one of the most valuable masterpieces that Reni created in maturity
